Mandy was born and raised near Milwaukee, WI. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Fashion Merchandising from the Chicago Art Institute. As she followed a successful career path, which included being part of the marketing team to launch the cosmetic and bath line, Fresh. She also continued to work with the Chicago Art Institute in their marketing and admissions department until Mandy hit the wall of addiction.
After enduring consequences of job loss, and subsequent divorce, she found herself in treatment through the intervention of her family.
Following two-years of sobriety Mandy enrolled, and graduated, from the Hazelden Graduate School of Addiction Studies with a MA in Addictions Counseling.
Mandy was one of three students from her class of 26 students who Hazelden set their sights on to hire. In addition to seemly being a natural at quickly developing therapeutic relations with clients, she spent her final semester interning on the medical detox unit. There she was tasked with developing an assessment protocol, which continues to be used today.
Following graduation, Mandy was hired as a Float Counselor, which is a tough position due to the fact you are covering a client's primary counselor while they are out sick, on leave, or on vacation. She explains, "It is difficult to step in when a client already has a strong bond with their focal counselor, but I quickly learned how to build quality therapeutic relationships. It was a challenging experience, which offered plenty of growth in my counseling skills".
Mandy's hard work did not go unnoticed. After six months, she was promoted to a full-time counselor on the women's primary unit, Simpson. Seven months later, she was sought out by the Unit Supervisor of the men's primary unit, Silkworth. Bucking a growing trend of catering to client's every whim, Silkworth is well-known for it's no nonsense approach to addiction treatment, and sticks to the basics: "I was honored to accept the position".
Mandy was employed for more than three and a half years at the world renowned Hazelden Foundation. Toward the end of her tenure, She took on the extra load of enrolling and completing a Clinical Supervision course.
In addition to this Supervision licensure, in October of 2011, Mandy attended an intensive Anger Management training, and received a court-recognized certification in Anger Management through the National Anger Management Association.
Mandy's outside interests include: painting, scuba diving, spending time with family and her two dogs: Rocket (a French Bulldog), and Shiloh (a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon puppy), fishing, hiking, reading, and beekeeping.
