A major asset to the Sweet Emotions Counseling’s team is our philosophy of a Multidisciplinary approach to client care. In laymen's terms, this approach means each therapist brings to the table a unique set of therapeutic ideals, strengths, and life experiences. During client staffing we discuss what each client is struggling with, and brainstorm the most up to date therapy concepts, models, and interventions to adapt to the client’s individual
treatment plan. The Multidisciplinary Team philosophy is part of the Minnesota Model, which was developed by the Hazelden Foundation. This model has been widely accepted as the gold standard of treatment, and has been copied at treatment centers around the world. It is still the cornerstone of Hazelden today. Sweet Emotions' three primary counselors obtained Masters of Arts from Hazelden Graduate School of Addiction Studies, and worked on Hazelden primary and extended care units, and are well verse in this approach to counseling.
Additionally, if the client’s primary counselor feels their client is becoming stuck, or slipping backward, the counselor may propose to the client that they work with another team member utilizing that therapist’s strength: (i.e.) Equine Therapy (Work with horses), Art Therapy, or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. If a proposal is made, it is ALWAYS the client’s decision how to proceed. At Sweet Emotions’, we meet the client where they are at in their process of healthy change. The client's well-being always comes first.
Kenneth has a Masters’ level education, and post-graduate course work. However, the classroom is not the only place he received his education. Kenneth has been in recovery for eight years. I have each sat and read this same type of information and made the tough choice of entering the unknown, or we had our family members intervene on us. I have experienced being on the other side of a therapist, and like any other good therapist I continue to do so: “A good therapist has a good therapist”. I believe it is important that I have completed any intervention/assignment, which I offer our clients, in addition to spending time to keep up-to-date by learning new skills through workshops and self-education. This continuing education goes beyond the states' required yearly education hours.
I specialize in all forms of addiction: Alcohol, Drugs, Gambling, Computer, Video Gaming, and Sex Addiction, as well as all forms of Co-dependency. I am well versed in Co-Occuring Disorders, and am able to work with any behavioral or mental health issues a client, or family, may be experiencing.
